The Next Dimension of Google Maps

From- This Friday, June 01, 2012, Google invited journalists to a June 06 event to unveil the future of Google Maps. It curiously falls just five days before Apple reveals the next Map App for iOS 6, where it has been rumored that Apple will stop using the Map App provided by Google.

Apple's event, the Worldwide Developer Conference, has been on the calendars for ages. This seems as if Google was responding to Apple's decision to stop using their app for navigation. The strangest part of this event is the date, we all know that less than a month from now comes the Google I/O, the yearly developers mega-event. So why now why 5 day before Apple's event when Google has it's own event later this month?
