Microsoft E3 Press Conference
Two days ago E3, the greatest and most popular game convention in the world, opened the doors to the Los Angeles Convention Center. It was that same day that Microsoft, at 9am PT, started the show for every Xbox fan and gamers alike. The big Xbox 360 manufacturer came this year with a lot more action from their best selling Xbox add-on device the Kinect, this time around with different focus than last years conference. This year Microsoft focus more on the hardcore fans than the family fun bringing games like the upcoming and most expected Halo 4, FIFA 13, Tomb Raider, Resident Evil 6, Dance Central 3, and many more. Apart from the games this conference focused on upcoming Xbox updates and new Xbox Live services for the owners and future owners of the console.
The light dimmed out just when the show was starting and instantly on the big screens the new gameplay trailer from Halo 4 - can watch it below- took the breath away from the audience, with amazing graphics, new and improved Master Chief suit and HUD, with Cortana showing a new look and brand new enemies, the Forerunners. After everyone retook their breath back came president of Interactive Entertainment Don Mattrick took the stage to announce what was later to be explain mentioning that Xbox was coming to PC, Tablets and smartphones. I'd say a jaw breaking news and something to expect later on.
Afterwards the conference went to a gaming conference presenting Ubisoft - Splinter Cell: Blacklist and from Electronic Arts the games FIFA 13 and Madden NFL, both EA games with Kinect control mainly using the integrated microphone in the device to issue command to the game. In FIFA you can make changes of payers while on Manager mode during a game and the Xbox live is now integrated for live updates of real life games through the game console as also you can synchronize your ingame news. While on Madden NFL 13 you are able to be the quarter back for real issuing the plays and formation for your team and then ask for the ball with the typical "Set hut hut" command; Xbox live is now connected to this game as well.
The event took a turn now to show Fable: the Journey, a Kinect enable game where you use your hands to cast spells and shot your enemies. The gameplay of this game is quite like a mini-game since you use your hand to cast spells you don't have the ability to move the character with a controller so it moves by itself while you go defeating enemies one after another. And right after we could see Forza Horizon a must have for every fan of racing games, great graphics and nice racing action.
Now the president of marketing came to the scene announcing updates to the Xbox Live video services. Now on Xbox Live you'll find enhanced content search using the Kinect mic through Bing, Netflix and Vudu. While adding new content providers like Nikelodeon, Machima, Univision with tele novelas and news and everything from the TV channel is now coming to the Xbox in Spanish and English. For the sports fan they also have new news providers for NBA, NHL with kinect compatibility. And a mayor update for the Xbox 360 software adding Xbox Music, which will come to Windows 8 PC as well and will have compatibility for listening to your Xbox music content through your PC, Win 8 PC, Tablet and smartphone.
The multi-platform announcement didn't stop there, Microsoft went straight to announce the Smartglass a new software for the Xbox and an App for mayor smartphone and tablet OS; Android, iOS and Windows Phone; that enables your mobile devices as controllers for the Xbox interface making it possible to control the Xbox using your mobile device on hands in the moment. With this news came the news of Internet Explorer 10 for Xbox and with the use of the tablet/smartphone you get the best controller to browse the Web since, like Microsoft said, "The keyboard is not for the living room". Smartglass will also come to Windows 8 PCs.
Microsoft showed their new partner for the Xbox franchise, Nike with it fitness product line Nike+. Nike is launching a game for the Xbox 360 called Nike+ Kinect Training, where you get the change to train and go through exercise routines made for you by certified Nike trainers and the progress you make in the game is automatically synchronized to your Nike+ account and you get "Fuel" and you can track your improvement through the Nike+ web site using your account or you can track your progress through the Xbox of the workout you do using your Nike+ device like the fuel band, step counter, etc.
For the closing of this event Microsoft left the next Call of Duty game for last, Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
